Coffee – A Short History
It is hard to verify the true origins of coffee.
It is often said that the effects of coffee was first experienced by a sheephearder that was tending his sheep.
His sheep became very active when they ate a certain type of berry off a plant.
The sheephearder decided to eat the berry and he experienced the same sensation.
Rumor has it that a monk told him to be careful of the devil’s fruit.
However, there is also a rumor that monks did eat the berry to help them stay awake and pray.
Another story is that an Arabian man was given a sentence of banishment to the desert.
He decided to try eating and boiling a mysterious plant.
He could survive in the harsh desert just by eating the plant.
Nearby residents of a town close to the desert felt that the mans survival was a religous message.
The mysterious plans was named Mocha, after the town.
The fact that the coffee plant originated in Ethiopia is known by few people.
They wrapped it in animal fat to eat while on raids.
Coffee migrated to Arabia, and the Arabians began to market coffee in the middle east.
The first to actually drink coffee as we know it today were the Turks.
They added spices such as clove and cinnamon to create a sweeter taste.
Coffee found its way to Europe via the Venetian trade merchants.
Soon after, coffee houses were built all over Europe.
Today, millions of people enjoy their coffee throughout the day.
Coffee comes in many brands and many flavors, so why not enjoy a cup?
