How can we better protect ourselves against identity theft?

Why can't we use like our thumb print as an ID or password, I mean really; we are already landing on fricken mars, so why can't we stop a simple crime as this?

how well does the US Embassy protect against identity theft?

when sponsoring an immigrant,,and all your vital importnat information is revealed to a 3rd world us embassy..at what length do they go to, to protect your identity from theft.I know all about the rules of the sponsor..and their duties.. i am curious as to what about all that information,,bank statements,social security #,,tax forms..how secure is this information that is needed for a sponsor..

How come credit card companies don't help against identity theft?

I know some credit card companies do care about identity theft but my big question is how come they don't try to protect against it harder, i.e. to keep themselves from having to pay the businesses back for someone purchasing on another persons credit card that wasn't suppose too. If a thief charges thousands of dollars on someones credit card they stole, credit card companies have to pay back the businesses and it just seems to me that if they don't want to keep paying of the businesses for the thieves then why don't they protect against identity theft harder? Do they have so much money that they just don't know what to do with it?
