I'm confused. I've read reports that say there were 9.9 million. Yet other reports including the FTC report that says only about 314,000. Which one is it?
It's becoming more and more of an issue every day. This would, might, could probably help somehow.
I had to apply for SSN's for my babies before we even left the hospital with them. Now with this new crisis of identity theft I have to guard those numbers for the next 18 years. Doesn't this seem insane that we have to do this? I have their SS cards which they obviously can't sign yet & I have to keep them guarded until they are old enough to use them. Why can't they just apply for the SSN themselves when they get of age to work & actually NEED it? That's what I did.

I've have been hearing more and more stories lately about people who find out that 10+ (I've heard it going up to as many as 80 people using the stolen information) illegal immigrants have been using the person's name and social security number after the IRS comes after them for back taxes! Is there a way to track your social to see where it is being used, looked at, reviewed, etc? What other ways can you track your identity?
All the nasty hackers I have ever known were card carrying members of the Socialist Workers Party. I'm not talking about Liberals, I mean serious, dedicated and most importantly, well-connected members of the Marxist Left. we keep being told that identity theft is the fault of Russians and Nigerians. I think the villians lie just a bit closer to home.
Is there any drawbacks if I put up alert at Credit Burearus , when I suspect i am victim of identity theft?
From my and other people’s experiences, PayPal® is anti-customer, having identity theft possibly via PayPal® as well as other major financial issues. What other companies that offer the same services are there than using PayPal®?
I don't really get that you have to pay some agency a bunch of money to protect from identity theft. Yes, there's the free annual credit report, but I'd want to know right away if someone attempts to steal my identity. Is there a way to get the credit agencies to notify you if there are any accounts opened or require some sort of verification before approving anything?
I am doing a 10 page research report on identity theft and cannot find if there is a statue of limitations on this crime. Any help or website is appreicated!
