I had to apply for SSN's for my babies before we even left the hospital with them. Now with this new crisis of identity theft I have to guard those numbers for the next 18 years. Doesn't this seem insane that we have to do this? I have their SS cards which they obviously can't sign yet & I have to keep them guarded until they are old enough to use them. Why can't they just apply for the SSN themselves when they get of age to work & actually NEED it? That's what I did.
Say for example.. someone else has been using your credit card for 2 weeks and incurred $600+ worth of theft. What will happen? Will your credit score go down? can you get the money back? can you catch the perpetrator?

because a growing number of illegal immigrants steal them to make themselves appear more legitimate. the government is doing a crappy job keeping up with internet crime and identity theft and it can take an individual literally years to erase the damage cause, maybe never. what should the punishment be?
I want to report the identity theft based on my credit report. But the police officer of Westminster Police Department in California said that she can not take my report because credit report is not a document for filing a report. Is it correct?
I am currently banking with provident, my parents also have the same bank and both have experienced some sort of identity theft. I want to change banks but i don;t know which is better?..Bank of America, suntrust etc…
I have been thinking about this a lot and was wondering why if someone commits fraud against an organisation(in the context of banking or credit card companies) is it seen as identity theft. The inmplication is, I assume, that it is the individuals responsibility and not the organisations.
